| Biblical Perspectives on the Christian Family |
| by Martin P. Geluk |
|
From the Introduction:
"Much has been written on the Christian family. The contribution I have sought to make is to look at various Scripture verses and passages and apply them to the Christian family in today's world. I have also approached the subject from a covenant perspective, which it is unique to Reformed theology. In dealing with the Christian family, it is also important to look at the people who make up the family - husband, wife, father, mother and children. It is therefore helpful and necessary to also look at the biblical foundations of marriage. And because modern society commonly has less respect for marriage and divorce, it is necessary to examine the biblical teaching on divorce and remarriage.
Much pain is experienced when the marriage is not going well and the family is falling apart. But there is hope and renewal for those who suffer these painful experiences when we look to the grace of God in Christ Jesus. There are no perfect marriages and families because there are no perfect husbands and wives, fathers and mothers, and children. There is, however, salvation in Christ and lives can be rebuilt when God's commandments are obeyed in the strength of Christ and by the guidance of His Spirit." |
